Drivers hit tree which came down during high winds

Leamington Editorial 24th Jan, 2018   0

DRIVERS escaped serious after ploughing into a tree which came down in front of them during strong winds.

The 70 feet high beech tree fell across both lanes on the Kenilworth Road near the University of Warwick around 6am on Thursday January 18.

A man driving a Ford and a woman in a BMW were both unable to avoid hitting the tree, but ambulance chiefs said neither driver had suffered serious injury.

The stretch of road – known as the straight mile – was closed until around 10.30am while contractors cleared the fallen tree which was around 100-year-old.
