Duck Race cancelled yet again - but supporters urged to donate online

A KENILWORTH charity is being forced to duck out of its annual fund-raiser once again due to covid guidelines.

Instead, ‘Love a Duck’ is the new online appeal launched by the Kenilworth Lions Club since its traditional duck race can no longer take place on Easter Monday.

The race, which has taken place on Boxing Day for over 25 years, sees some 1,500 rubber ducks float down the brook through Abbey Fields, with cash prizes awarded to the owners of the first four to the finish line.

Funds raised through ticket sales are donated to a number of local causes supported by the club.

A spokesperson said: “The race is usually one of our biggest fund-raising events of the year, contributing many thousand of pounds towards helping us to maintain our active programme of charitable giving to support local charities and community support organisations in their vital work.

“During the current pandemic their needs have only become greater and the demands on us for help remain as high as ever.”

Instead, the club is hopeful community members might donate to the appeal online, to help local charities impacted by the pandemic. Visit cafdonate.cafonline.org/16104 to donate.
