A DUAL carriageway is planned to tackle congestion on the road linking Leamington and the M40.
The £37.6million Warwickshire County Council scheme would see the entire length of the A452 Europa Way corridor between the motorway and the Leamington Shopping Park roundabout become a dual carriageway.
A report reads: “The A452 Europa Way corridor has experienced significant increases in traffic
flows and journey delays over recent years and that congestion will intensify in response to housing and employment growth within the corridor and wider area.
“The Warwick District Local Plan includes an allocation of approximately 6,000 homes in the vicinity of Europa Way and the adopted Stratford-on-Avon Core Strategy includes an allocation of 3,500 homes at Gaydon Lighthorne Heath which will also impact on traffic flows in the corridor.”
There are also plans for a 500 space park and ride, a a cycle route from Europa Way to Tachbrook Park Drive, and improvements to Heathcote Lane.
The cost would be met by £18.7million in housing developer contributions; a further £15.3million from existing agreements with developers for highways improvements, and £3.6million from Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership, subject to final confirmation.
An additional £4.5million is also expected to become available to the scheme – to fund additional transport infrastructure – through housing developer contributions when permission is given for the building of new homes on land earmarked in the Local Plan.
The entire scheme is set to take six years to complete with work starting later this month.
