EASTENDERS star Jo Joyner will putting her best foot forward in the fight against dementia for a memory walk in Leamington.

Nearly 800 people have already registered to take part in the Leamington Spa Memory Walk on October 7, raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Society.

There will be two circular routes of 1.5km and 5.5km along the banks of the River Leam, and dogs are welcome.

Jo, who is from Warwickshire and studied drama at Stratford College, said: “This is my first memory walk, and I’m incredibly proud to walk in memory of my nanna along with my family and so many others with a common goal of uniting against dementia.

“Supporting the walk plays a vital part in raising awareness of the condition and strikes a massive blow against the isolation it causes.

“It is a great opportunity for us all to join together, celebrate someone special, share experiences and fight against dementia.”

More than 3,800 over-65s in South Warwickshire are estimated to be living with dementia.

And charity operations manager Janice Le Tellier called it ‘the 21st century’s biggest killer.’ She added: “Dementia devastates lives. Walk with us at Memory Walk and dementia won’t win.”

Funds raised will support Alzheimer’s Society in providing information and support, quality care and fund research to improve the lives of people affected by dementia.
