PLANS to convert student accommodation in Leamington into a HMO look set to be refused – despite having eco-friendly potential.
The owner of the 47-bedroomed apartment block on Moss Street, off Radford Road, has submitted an application to Warwick District Council to allow it to be used by both students and professionals.
He says while no more rent would be charged or profit made, it would mean nine electric vehicle charging points would not go to waste.
Since Moss House and Moss Yard were built between 2017 and 2019 on the former site of Spa Heating and Kirkdale Builders Yard the charging points have not been used.
But now the owners believe with district council declaring a climate emergency they could help.
A spokesman said: “We would be no better off financially by doing this but currently just having students with no electric vehicles is a waste of these charging points.
“These could help with the climate emergency situation in Warwick district.”
Despite 11 letters of support and the backing of a local councillor, the application looks set to be refused at a planning meeting on Wednesday (March 4).
Council officers say it will have impact parking in the area.
