FRAIL and elderly hospital patients are being cared for in state-of-the-art beds.
South Warwickshire Foundation Trust (SWFT) has bought eight beds which recognise when a patient is trying to get out of bed and alerts staff.
Trust falls prevention leader Jo Copeman says she hopes it will cut down on the number of accidents at the trust and that the beds will be useful for patients who are confused or unable to call for help.
She said: “Many patients need help but can’t ask for it and these new beds ensure that if a patient does try and get out of their bed without assistance, a member of the team is immediately alerted by way of a pager or alarm and can avert any further injury.”
The beds have been paid for using donations to the SWFT charity – which allows the trust to buy items which do not come as standard on the NHS.
Jo added: “Staff are really grateful to the public for donating money to ensure we are able to offer this extra care to our patients during their stay with us.”
