Emergency services supporting young Alex's Journey

POLICE officers swapped their sirens for singing voices to record a song for charity.

Alex Goodwin, the son of Warwickshire PC Jeff Goodwin, was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma – a rare form of cancer – in June after struggling with constant pain.

Since then Warwickshire Police have rallied around the nine year-old and his family – who hail from Dunton Bassett in Leicestershire – to raise money for his treatment.

Police Investigator Dave Jones wrote and produced the charity single ‘Horizon on my Mind’ with the help of his son and it was recorded by fellow officers and emergency service teams.

Money raised through the single will go towards helping Alex receive treatment.

Emergency services recently came together at the former police headquarters in Leek Wootton to film a video for the song.

Around 250 people, made up of police officers, dogs and horses alongside firefighters, paramedics, and search and rescue members from all over the country pulled on their dancing shoes to star in the film.

The song will be officially released in December and it is hoped it will make it into the Christmas charts.

Alex has completed his first cycle of chemotherapy but despite the treatment his family has been told the cancer has spread and this has sadly reduced his chances of survival. It also means the treatment options available to him on the NHS are fewer.

But to maximize Alex’s chances his family are seeking the support, knowledge and expertise of leading medical professionals and treatment that is not available in the UK, including Proton Beam Therapy.

Chief Constable Martin Jelley said: “I’m incredibly proud to see the whole emergency services family come together to support and raise money for Alex, a very brave young boy who has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.

“It is a privilege to be involved in the video and I would like to personally thank all of those who gave up their free time to take part in this fantastic fundraising effort.”

The single is available for pre-order now from Amazon and iTunes and will be released on December 5 alongside the video.
