Entries open for Leamington's Regency Run

Ian Hughes 16th Jan, 2017   0

ENTRIES are now open for the 13th annual Wright Hassall Regency 10k Run – and organisers are expecting record numbers.

The event will also act as a celebration for organisers Leamington Round Table as they commemorate 70 years since the organisation’s formation.

Proceeds raised from the run, which will be held on Sunday April 2 will as usual be donated to local causes and charities.

The annual Leamington race is now recognised as one of the top 10km runs in the country with more than 2,000 runners taking part each year.

Alongside the 10km run, the 1.2km junior’s run will return for its third consecutive year – after more than 250 children took part in the 2016 event.

Leamington Round Table’s membership has continued to grow over the past year and they say the run supports their priority of giving back to the community.

Gary Craine, of Leamington Round Table, said: “We’re now into our 13th year of the Wright Hassall Regency Run and we are hoping this year’s event exceeds all of our fundraising records to date. Since it started, the event has raised over £250,000 for the local community.

“It’s fantastic that the junior race is returning again, operated by Kids Run Free. Since it was introduced the response has been incredible and it’s great that kids have a chance to get involved in their local community.

“Each year the atmosphere on the day is brilliant, we hope that this year is no different and the people of Leamington help us make this year’s run our most successful yet as we celebrate 70 years of the Leamington Round Table.”

Law-firm Wright Hassall will again be the main sponsor for the event and the Round Table’s partner charity, Leamington-based Helping Hands, will be one of many local organisations set to benefit from the funds raised by the run.

Helping Hands operates in Leamington, Kenilworth and Warwick, working with the homeless, victims of domestic abuse and those with drug and alcohol addictions.

Founder Lianne Kirkman said: “This is a brilliant event and it is made even better because of all the proceeds of the run going toward helping local causes like ours.

Men aged 18 to 45 in Leamington are encouraged to contact Leamington Round Table, as they actively look for new members, for more information visit www.leamingtonroundtable.org.uk.
