Exam students offered ancient skills with a modern twist

EXAM time is stressful for everyone – those preparing to put their knowledge to the test and those supporting them and desperately trying to keep them from meltdown.

But, thanks to a modern interpretation of some very ancient skills, help could be at hand for this year’s young exam entrants.

Peace Gym practitioner Jenny Critchlow, who has decades of experience running courses and healing sessions from her Claverdon base, is offering a one-session practical course aimed at equipping even the most nervous exam-sitter with real skills they can call on when the stress ramps up.

The emphasis, says Jenny, is on taking the anxiety out of a traditionally very stressed time.

“We’ll be learning emergency skills for when it all feels a bit too much, and preventative exercises to help keep focused and calm over the coming months.

“We also look at techniques such as breath work, meditation and tapping to help prevent stress and to deal with it when it’s happening.

“It will also be beneficial to discover ways of being more peaceful in the world and how we can create that for ourselves when we need it”, she added.

There is a YouTube channel and a booklet to back up everything covered in the session. To complete the feeling of calm and readiness, the day will finish with a ‘sound bath’ – a chance to relax and zone-out to a live gong and singing bowl performance.

And the skills learned on the day could well stand pupils in good stead for the years to come.

Says Jenny: “ It’s a chance for teenagers to begin their own journey into themselves, and to begin to take control of their thoughts and emotions.

“In small groups – no more than ten – in a warm and welcoming environment, there is space to find what works for you.

“You do not need any skills or knowledge to come along and learn something new.”

The Teen Exam Stress Workshop runs on Tuesday April 19 starting at 1pm.
