Fancy climbing Mount Everest for Myton Hospice?

MYTON Hospice is urging people to consider climbing Mount Everest – while not stepping foot outside their front door.

The charity has been hit hard by the coronavirus crisis after being forced to postpone a number of events and close its charity shops.

The hospice says it is facing a ‘mountain to climb’ – but is urging people to climb a virtual mountain in the comfort of their own home to help raise money while improving fitness.

Its Myton Mountain campaign involves climbing the stairs the same amount of times it would take to scale the Malvern Hills or even Everest.

Charity spokesman Chris Willmott said: “Our fundraising has been hit hard by coronavirus and we would be grateful to anyone who can support us through this campaign or by simply making a donation to help us through this global crisis

“So many people were due to take part in events and challenges to raise money for us in the coming months, but Covid 19 has stopped them in their tracks. We hope this new campaign will offer a fun alternative while helping to raise vital funds at such a difficult time.”

The charity has used the average height of a staircase to work out the amount of times a supporter would need to climb their stairs to scale the peaks.

The Malvern Hills would mean 177 ascents, Scafell Pike is 408 while those looking to really push themselves could try Kilimanjaro at 2,457 ascents or Everest at 3,695.

Those taking part are asked to set up a JustGiving page fund-raising for Myton.

Mr Willmott added: “Whether you’re working from home, at work, furloughed, a child or teenager on lockdown, or a super-fit over-70 in self-isolation, everyone can take part in this challenge and help us meet our challenge too. The Myton Mountain campaign will also help keep you fit and healthy – an important part of the battle against Coronavirus.”
