Farmers Market could move to make way for HS2

A FARMERS market looks set to move to make way for HS2.

Rugby Farmers Market sells cows, sheep and pigs from a base in Stoneleigh Park.

But the first stages of the plans for the high speed rail line – which will cut through the county – will force the farm to move. Owners Mars Pension Trustee has its sights set on nearby land, which is still owned by the park and is close to Stoneleigh village

It plans to submit a detailed planning application for the relocation of the market, which will include a livestock area with parking, pens, a cafe, weigh bridges and vehicle washing facilities.

HS2 Ltd intends to carry out early preparation works throughout 2017 ahead of the main contractors starting on site from next year.

A total of 54 kilometres of the 190km route will travel through the heart of Warwickshire, with the first trains set to run in 2026.
