Favourite place: Enjoying the London views

Leamington Editorial 26th Dec, 2015 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016   0

ITS about this time of year many of us start dreaming of distant shores and summer holidays.

In recent years the ‘staycation’ has become popular with many opting to forgo jetting off abroad in favour of a destination closer to home.

They say travel broadens the mind. True – but you don’t necessarily need to travel thousands of miles to find that special somewhere. All of us have been to a place which has struck a chord for one reason or another, the memory of which stays with us for a variety of reasons – as our reporting team discovered when they pondered on a place which meant something to them.

Shaun Reynolds enjoys a view of London – most of the time.

STANDING at 256ft high and located just three miles from the bustling centre of London, few places can compare to the stunning view from the summit of Primrose Hill. As the crow flies it is only a few miles away from the centre of the capital.

In terms of the hustle and bustle it is a million miles removed.

I’m a lover of London, and I love to walk along Oxford Street, take a stroll through Covent Garden or walk across the many bridges over the Thames. I choose my feet over taxi, bus or the Underground every time.

Primrose Hill holds many special memories.

It was on Primrose Hill that myself and good friend Ed Hawkins neared the finish line on an epic Leamington to London charity cycle ride in the summer of 2014 – just weeks after completing our A Levels.

I’ll never forget cycling through the side streets of north London only to find ourselves climbing Primrose Hill to see the metropolis spread out before us.

London gives me energy. I even found myself running over ten kilometres through the streets of the capital on a cold Sunday morning just weeks ago during a weekend break with my girlfriend.

But when I reached Primrose Hill there was no chance of me enjoying the view – the fog was so thick I could see no more than 30 yards.

I would encourage anyone visiting London to take an hour of their day to stand on Primrose Hill. Just make sure you choose a clear day.
