Planned Fire Service Training Exercise at Christine Ledger Square

FIREFIGHTERS will be carrying out a training exercise at an empty tower block in Leamington tomorrow morning (Thursday April 2).

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service, in partnership with the block’s owners Warwick District Council, will be at Christine Ledger Square, off Brunswick Street, between 10am and 1pm.

The exercise has been designed to test firefighters’ response to a simulated fire in a high-rise building. The Christine Ledger Square building has been chosen as it is unoccupied. Although there will be no real fire or risk to the public, local residents and businesses may notice fire appliances, crews and some noise disruption in the area during this time.

WDC housing spokesman Jess Melrose said: “We fully support this essential training exercise. Ensuring our fire and rescue teams can safely and effectively respond to incidents in high-rise buildings is vital for the safety of residents. We want to thank the community for their cooperation while this important work takes place.

“This is a routine, controlled training activity, and any fire service presence in the area that morning should not be a cause for concern.”
