Leamington Editorial 25th Jun, 2019   0

A FLAG raising ceremony in Leamington has marked the start of Armed Forces Week.

Representatives from Kineton Station, the Royal Naval Association, Royal British Legion and the Fusiliers Museum joined local mayors and Warwick District Council chairman George Illingworth to raise the flag outside the town hall.

It was raised by the council chairman, who served for 36 years in the Territorial Army.

Events to mark Armed Forces Week will continue on Saturday (June 29) between 11am and 3pm with a community fun day at St John’s House Museum in Warwick. It will include music from a regimental band, wartime songs and activities, along with a climbing tower, bouncy castle, refreshments and other activities.

Coun Illingworth said: “Our armed forces community have dedicated their lives to serving our country and it is important that as a district we join together not only to celebrate, but also to say thank you.”
