Floristry students win Chelsea Flower Show honour

Leamington Editorial 16th May, 2017   0

FLORISTRY students at Moreton Morell College bloomed in a competition for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

The students designed a bespoke floral feature to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the British Florist Association, beating competition from colleges across the UK.

More than 6,000 fresh cut flowers will be used to create the 2.5 metre high feature, which will be shaped as the number 100 to mark the occasion. The piece will be on display in the Great Pavillion, at the heart of the show’s floristry zone.

The floristry students, and tutors Jane Benefield and Laura Leong, are now working hard on preparations for the show’s official press day on Monday May 22.

Brian Wills-Pope, Chair of the BFA said: “We are thrilled that Moreton Morrell College is helping us celebrate the 100th anniversary of the British Florist Association in style at the world-famous RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Moreton Morrell is one of our leading Member Colleges and their floristry expertise is simply outstanding.”

The RHS Chelsea Flower Show runs from May 23 to May 27. Moreton Morrell College offers floristry courses at a range of levels. Visit www.warwickshire.ac.uk/courses for more on floristry courses at the college.
