Football fans kit out six teams of disadvantaged children in Malawi

KIND-hearted football fans turned out in their droves to donate kits to disadvantaged children in Malawi.

Matt Black called on people to help him support children at an African charity school which is being run at a former refugee camp.

But Matt from Leamington did not expect the response he received after the Observer featured his plight.

Fans of the beautiful game donated some 70 kits – enough for six teams to wear.

They will now be sent to Kapalamula School, which educates nearly 1,500 pupils and has to hold half of all classes outside due to lack of space.

The school has a serious shortage of equipment, teachers and facilities, with just four toilets in the whole building.

Donors from across the globe are now working together to improve the situation for youngsters at the school.

Matt said: “We had a fantastic response, with enough kit for about 6 full teams, which is amazing.

“The people in Malawi love football but don’t have money for any kit or equipment so this is where we will help.”
