Former Leamington man and convicted paedophile expelled from Labour Party

A FORMER Leamington man and convicted paedophile who ran a library of child abuse images has been expelled from the Labour Party.

Thomas O’Carroll, head of the Paedophile Information Exchange (PIE), which campaigned the Government to scrap or lower the age of consent to ten, was excluded from the party after The Times revealed he had joined in September 2015.

While a Labour party spokesperson has confirmed 70-year-old O’Carroll’s expulsion, questions have been raised at how he managed to join in the first place.

O’Carroll, who is believed to have previously lived in Leamington Spa, was a key member of PIE and was jailed in 1981 for ‘corrupting public morals.’

He was jailed again for two-and-a-half years in 2006 when he admitted two counts of distributing indecent images of children after a library of more than 50,000 images and videos of child abuse – which he helped to run – was discovered in a Surrey home.

Deputy Labour Leader, Tom Watson MP, tweeted on Monday (February 15): “Just picking up on the Tom O’Carroll story. Have to verify the facts but he is not welcome in the Labour Party and nor are his views.”
