Free rehabilitation sessions for breast cancer sufferers

Leamington Editorial 5th Dec, 2016   0

THOSE affected by breast cancer are invited to take part in free rehabilitation sessions in Leamington.

The exercise programme at Lear Fitness on Bedford Street is designed specifically for the needs of breast cancer sufferers.

The classes are based around pilates – helping to stretch and strengthen the shoulders, chest and back, allowing patients to improve movement in the areas most affected by breast cancer surgery, treatment and reconstruction.

The ‘Pink Ribbon Programme’ used by instructors was first established in America by a breast cancer survivor.

Instructor Melanie Cook said: “Rehabilitation is a fundamental component in the treatment of breast cancer. The programme has been created specifically to enhance recovery for breast cancer patients, and I’m delighted to be able to provide it in Leamington.

“I want to help members of our community with their recovery process. Almost everyone has been affected by cancer in some way, be it a family member or friend. To be able to use my physiotherapy and pilates skills in this way has been a positive and rewarding experience.”

The 12 session course runs every Tuesday at 3.30pm. Call 01926 889917 to find out more.
