Fund-raising Warwickshire officer to walk some 125miles wearing respiratory mask and 50lb backpack

A POLICE officer is set to walk some 120 miles complete with a 50lb military backpack and face respirator in the name of charity.

PC Scott Caswell, an officer based at the Warwickshire Police headquarters in Leek Wootton, has set himself the challenge of walking four miles around the site every day this month while off-duty.

PC Caswell will be raising money for military charity Curtis Palmer Programme.

The challenge is a follow-up to one he did in November, when he walked non-stop around the HQ for 24 hours, covering nearly 90 miles, while carrying the weighted backpack.

Scott said: “This challenge will not be an easy one – I’m 48 now and the respirator will seriously restrict my breathing, which, added to the weight I’m going to be carrying, completing four miles every day for 31 days in a row is going to be really demanding in every way possible.

“I’m doing the challenge to raise funds and awareness of the Curtis Palmer Programme which is organised by the Pilgrim Bandits – a military and emergency services charity which supports frontline workers who are suffering from mental or physical health problems, often caused by trauma or injury at work.

“A big thank you to everyone who has supported me so far. If anyone sees me out and about, feel free to give me a wave and come and join me!”
