Further cuts to Leamington police station opening hours

FURTHER cuts are being made to opening hours at Leamington police station.

From Friday September 1 the station on Newbold Terrace will close an hour and a half earlier as police look at the provision of a front desk.

During the week the hours will change from 8am to 6.30pm and Sunday and bank holiday opening hours of 10am until 4pm will remain the same.

Rugby and Nuneaton stations will also be affected.

But a longer-term decision for all three stations is yet to be made.

Chf Insp Sarah Corteen said police were ensuring the best use of resources to meet the changing needs of the community.

In 2014 the closing time was reduced from midnight to 8pm, after which people must use an intercom outside the station to speak to an operator who will decide whether they need to see an officer.

The previous reduction came following a review into face to face dealings between the police and the public, which found less people were choosing to visit the station since the 101 non-emergency number was introduced.

Warwickshire police advised that as well as calling 999 in an emergency, there was a range of methods to contact them including calling 101, using contact points introduced at stations to connect callers to the police, or via police websites.
