AN APPEAL to site four massive wind turbines in south Warwickshire has failed.
Stratford District Council refused planning permission early last year for the so-called Starbold Wind Farm on land between Bishops Itchington, Gaydon and Knightcote.
But developers Broadview Energy Ltd lodged an appeal to the government which resulted in a ten day public inquiry in September 2013 to re-consider plans for the turbines, each up to a maximum height of 125 metres, together with other permissions including a control building and a new access road.
Neighbouring residents fought the proposals from the off, and the district council refused permission ruling it would be a blot on the landscape and a risk to low flying aircraft.
And this week the Secretary of State agreed with the recommendations of a Government Inspector and dismissed the appeal for the same reasons – highlighting the impact on views from the Burton Dassett Hills Country Park.
Coun Sir William Lawrence, district environmental services spokesman, said: “It is good to see that the Inspector’s decision supports that it has to be in the right place or have a negative impact on the community.
“Naturally, wind energy is important and should not be overlooked in the right locations.”
