Girl guides prepare to celebrate their centenary

Leamington Editorial 19th Jan, 2018   0

GIRL Guides in Leamington are preparing to celebrate their centenary.

The 3rd Leamington Girl Guide Unit will turn 100 years-old this year and they are inviting past members to a coffee morning at St Mary Magdalene’s Church in Lillington on Saturday January 27, from 10am to noon.

The 3rd Leamington Girl Guides have been based in Lillington since 1918 providing girls aged ten to 14 the opportunity to learn new skills, build new friendships, help others, and have fun.

The unit met in several places in Lillington over the years and also changed its name between 3rd & 4th Leamington.

The current leaders are hoping to use the coffee morning to build up a book of memories and photographs as well as celebrate the achievements of the unit through the years.

Anyone not able to make it to the coffee morning can email memories or photographs in advance to [email protected]

Di Bull, the unit’s current leader said, “We are just so excited to be celebrating our 100 years. It’s hard to believe how much has changed in the world since guiding first started in Lillington. Our current girl guilds can’t wait to hear the stories of what guiding was like in the past.”
