GP surgery launches fitness club

Leamington Editorial 12th Oct, 2019   0

A GP surgery in Leamington has launched its own fitness club.

The Clarendon Lodge Medical Practice Fitness Club aims to improve the health and wellbeing of its patients and staff starting with its #pledge10000 campaign.

The goal is to reach a collective 10,000 km of activity with patients sharing their achievements through the practice’s social media platforms.

And a launch day featuring yoga, taekwondo and salsa taster sessions, a gentle jog and high intensity workout racked up the first 60km.

Joining patients on their journey is Dr Alia Fahmy, who is sharing a live blog as she aims to lose weight and improve her fitness through the club.

Dr Fahmy said: “You don’t need to join a gym. It can start off with walking the dog every day, getting out playing football with the kids. We just want you to get out and think about moving more.”

And the surgery’s Dr Hussain Al-Zubaidi added: “It has been fantastic to see so many of our patients enjoying the launch day and getting on board with our pledge. It’s all about getting people active so it’s been great to see pledges coming through, whether it’s been patients taking an extra long walk with their dog or running that little bit further.”
