GP surgery set to be bulldozed and turned into homes

A GP surgery in Wellesbourne looks set to be bulldozed and turned into homes.

Applicant Danny O’Flanagan has proposed demolishing the medical centre on Kineton Road and building four homes in its place.

Permission has already been granted to build a £4million larger, state-of-the-art replacement surgery on land off Dog Close in Bridge Street.

The new homes which could be built in the original practice’s site are all four-bedroomed and include parking and two garages.

Several objections were raised about the plans, with residents concerned about overdevelopment, inadequate parking provision and the proposed homes being too big and out of keeping with the rest of the street.

But councillors look set to give proposals the green light at a meeting on Wednesday (March 1).

The planning report reads: “A new replacement surgery in Wellesbourne with a larger state-of-the-art modern primary care facility and a wider range of health services would replace the existing cramped and obsolete Hastings House building.

“The current partners of Hastings House need to release the equity of the current premises in order to facilitate the new surgery.”

* WELLESBOURNE Primary School is hoping to expand.

With housing being built on all sides of the village the school is finding it increasingly difficult to accommodate all the children who want to attend the school.

And the Wellesbourne and Walton Parish Council have supported the school’s campaign to increase their facilities in a letter to Warwickshire County Council.

* VOLUNTEERS from Jaguar Land Rover will be helping to clean up parts of Wellesbourne.

Wellesbourne and Walton Parish Council received on offer of community work from the company and the volunteers will help clear overgrowing bushes and plants between the Ettington Road and Mountford sports field.
