A GRANDSON is taking to the water to raise money for cancer charities which are helping his grandmother.

St Margaret’s School pupil Joseph Deavall is swimming 5km at Newbold Comyn Leisure Centre on Sunday (June 28) to raise money for Myton Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support.

When his grandmother Liz was diagnosed with ovarian cancer the ten-year-old wanted to raise as much money as possible to help research the disease.

Leamington Amateur Swim Club member Joseph said: “When I found out that my nanny had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer I was very upset. I wanted to help her and all of the other people that are suffering in the same way.

“I’ll be swimming 5K because I love a challenge and I decided the best way to raise lots of money would be by doing something I enjoy.”
