A GREAT-GRANDAD has pulled on his roller skates for a good cause.
John Wilcock was inspired by Sir Captain Tom Moore and Marcus Rashford to do something for charity during the pandemic.
And the 89-year-old aims to skate 90 laps of the courtyard outside his Warwick home before his 90th birthday next January.
He is using his wife’s rollator walking aid to help with balance and plans to do two laps a week .
John was aiming to raise £500 for Fareshare – a charity distributing food which would end up in landfill, to families in need.
But he has already smashed that total, which now stands at some £7,000.
And he has been attracting attention across the town after moving his skating efforts to St Nicholas Park.
John said: “As the eldest in a family of seven children I know from experience what it is like to have to go to school hungry, and like Marcus Rashford I was grateful for free school meals.
“It has been wonderful to meet so many lovely people who expressed great interest in what I am trying to do.”
