ENVIRONMENTALLY-CONSCIOUS pupils at Heathcote Primary School are celebrating the arrival of a willow dome.
The Friends of Heathcote Primary raised money to improve the grounds and create an area in the forest school where children can shelter, gather to tell stories, watch birds nesting and learn about sustainability by harvesting the willow and replanting next year.
The Willow Bank, living willow specialists, worked with the pupils to create a three metre dome. Reception children learnt to weave and had fun watching it grow throughout the day.
Forest school leader Laura Everett will now be known as The Willow Guardian and she will make sure it is looked after, new growth weaved in and cut back when necessary.
Executive head Gill Humphriss said: “We are very grateful for the recent donation The Friends of Heathcote Primary gave us to help us improve our school grounds so that the children can enjoy nature and the outdoors.”
