GREEN teenagers are ditching plastic after being left shocked by the impact it is having on marine life.
BBC show Blue Planet, presented by David Attenborough, hit home with pupils at North Leamington School shocked at the devastation plastic waste was causing in the world’s oceans.
Pupils at the school have stepped up recycling.
An end of tern effort to try and recycle 100 plastic bottles each day was smashed with more than 9,000 bottles during six weeks.
Plans are already in the pipeline to use eco-friendly packaging in the canteen from next term.
A school spokesman said: “Blue Planet had a huge an impact on the students at North Leamington School and when the challenge finished we had recycled thousands of bottles which would have in the past gone into landfill.
“The challenge may have stopped but we hope the students will maintain their endeavours and continue to recycle plastics.”
