A GUIDE dog mum volunteer taster day is being held in Leamington at the weekend.
Sight loss charity Guide Dogs is running the event on Sunday (October 1) at its National Centre, just outside Leamington.
There will be the chance to meet some of the charity’s guide dog mums, who have litters of life-changing guide dog pups, and the dedicated volunteers and staff who care for them.
The charity has around 250 guide dog mums, who all live in volunteer’s homes, within an hour’s drive of its National Centre, so it can run its breeding programme.
Guide dog mums live permanently with their volunteers, so they have a familiar space they are comfortable in, when they have their pups.
At the taster day, visitors will be able to find out more about how they could have a guide dog mum living with them, with all costs covered, and have the unique experience of having guide dog pups born in their home.
Kelly Newton, operations manager at Guide Dogs, said: “We look forward to welcoming you to our National Centre this weekend, where you can meet some of our amazing guide dog mums and some of our dedicated Breeding Dog Holder volunteers.
“We’ll have lots of information about what it’s like caring for a guide dog mum and her litters of guide dog pups when they arrive.

The event will be running from 1pm until 4pm and there will be activities for children and refreshments available too.
