Guide Dogs seek volunteers to help with charity's new service

GUIDE Dogs are calling for volunteers to help the visually impaired enjoy sport.

The charity’s My Guide service – which supports people with sight loss to go out – needs volunteers to offer their time and accompany someone with sight loss to go swimming or to the gym.

The service helps people to get back into the community, rebuild confidence and independence.

My Guide ambassador Jackie Elshaw said: “I have a My Guide who I go swimming with.

“I feel confident in the knowledge that I can swim freely around the pool knowing that Ellie my volunteer is keeping me safe.”

Those who have a couple of hours to give on a regular basis will need to attend two short training sessions explaining how to help someone suffering from sight loss.

Volunteers need to be over 18 and agree to a criminal record check.

Call Jackie on 07717815579 or email [email protected] to find out more.
