Hatton Park residents protest against more roadwork disruption

FUMING residents turned out in the driving rain to protest against more disruptive roadworks in Hatton Park.

About 18 people gathered on the corner of Charingworth Drive and Birmingham Road on Friday (October 13) in opposition to work to construct an access road to the new Union View housing estate. The work begins later this month and is set to last 11 months.

There will be traffic lights on the A4177 outside the Shell garage 24/7 and men at work from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday. There will also be no let up at weekends with construction work to take place between 8am and 1pm.

Those residents considered to be most affected have received letters through their doors from Warwickshire County Council notifying them of the upcoming work.

And residents claim they will not be the only ones impacted as thousands of motorists use the A4177 each day, as well as the surrounding roads and motorways including the M40 and M6.

But the biggest concern raised on Facebook page Hatton Park Locals is by parents frustrated that this latest batch of roadworks will mean more hold-ups in getting their children to school on time.

A drop-in event was held for residents last week to pose their questions ahead of the roadworks taking place, attended by teams from Warwickshire County Council, developer Taylor Wimpey, and the contractor.

These latest roadworks follow on from over a year of delays on the Birmingham Road as a result of work taking place to build the houses at the new Union View development.

Taylor Wimpey, the developers behind the works, say it is a condition to the houses on the new development being sold that the access road is put in place.

WCC transport spokesperson Coun Jan Matecki said: “The works are essential to ensure the safety of residents and commuters but wherever we can, we will be listening and doing our very best to keep the disruption to a minimum.”
