Heartless thieves break into Myton Hospice charity shop and steal hundreds of pounds

HEARTLESS thieves have stolen hundreds of pounds from a Warwick charity shop during an overnight burglary.

Myton Hospices’ shop on Brook Street was broken into between 9pm on Tuesday, November 15, and 8.30am on Wednesday, November 16, where an estimated £450 was stolen.

As a result, the shop was forced to close its doors until 10.30am on Wednesday morning.

Various items of stock and equipment were damaged and Warwickshire Police are now looking to track down those responsible.

The unknown offenders are thought to have gained entrance into the charity shop through a rear door before forcing open a safe and taking approximately £450.

It is believed items of jewellery have also been taken.

Myton Hospice works tirelessly to support up to 2,300 patients and their families each year across Coventry and Warwickshire.

The charity provides all of its services free of charge, meaning they must raise £8.4million each year to continue operating.

Retail operations manager Gary Bradbury said the charity shops provide an invaluable source of income for the charity and added the hospice will support the police with their investigations.

He said: “Our shops help us raise the vital funds we need to continue caring for patients and their loved ones across Coventry and Warwickshire.

“The incident has caused a lot of distress for staff and volunteers.

“Measures will be taken to ensure a similar situation does not occur again in the future.”

Warwickshire Police and Myton Hospice are now appealing for witnesses and anyone with information about the theft is urged to visit www.crimestoppers-uk.org or call 101.
