Hedgehogs can call a Warwick school home

HEDGEHOGS looking for homes near a school in Warwick will not be disappointed.

Heathcote Primary School has been given two hedgehog homes or ‘hogilos’ by developer David Wilson Homes to help youngsters learn all about the animals.

The hogilos provide a sturdy and waterproof home and will be put in the school’s play area to keep the hedgehogs safe from prickly situations.

Headteacher Lara Jeffries said: “I have been inspired by year six girls I previously taught, who tirelessly taught others how to care for hedgehogs and their environments.

“One of our focuses at Heathcote is the environment and the wildlife within it – being part of an ever growing development means this is all the more important.

It is estimated there are less than a million hedgehogs in Britain, with a third of the population lost since the millennium.
