AN HISTORIC archive chronicling a famous car manufacturer has parked up for preservation at the British Motor Museum.

The Lucas Collection is now among the archive of documents and photographs held at the Gaydon museum thanks to a grant from the Business Archives Council.

Lucas Industries was a Birmingham-based car manufacturer and supplier of electrical equipment to the motor industry for nearly a century.

The archive includes details of the founders Joseph Lucas and his son Harry, their business practices, and what it was like to work for them.

Archivist Gillian Bardsley said: “Lucas Industries employed generations of people in the Birmingham area, and the Lucas Collection is one of the archive’s hidden treasures.

“Now, thanks to this grant, we can open up this precious resource to everyone with an interest in this enterprising family and the company they created, which so many remember with great affection.”
