Hospice hopes luck with vehicles set to change after vans and tyres stolen

Leamington Editorial 23rd May, 2019   0

MYTON Hospice is hoping its luck with vehicles is set to change – just months after two of its vans were stolen and tyres were taken from the rest of its fleet.

Hospice bosses were left ‘devastated’ after callous thieves targeted its distribution centre in Coventry just before Christmas, meaning it was unable to keep up with donations and deliveries at the busiest time of year.

Following the thefts a kind-hearted donor gave a new van to the hospice which enabled it to continue delivering items to its 27 shops.

And now the charity is hoping a business may donate a second van after the vehicle it used to carry out fund-raising events became ‘increasingly unreliable’. The van is needed to transport items including tables, gazebos, food, flyers and t-shirts.

The events help raise the some £9million Myton needs to carry out care for those with life-limiting illnesses.

Spokeswoman Charlotte Ingram said: “Our fund-raising team work tirelessly each year to raise money so Myton can continue to be there for people with life limiting and terminal illnesses, and the events we organise are a vital part of this.

“We are desperately in need of a newer, more reliable van for the team to use and I would love to hear from anyone who could help us with a vehicle.”

The vans were stolen when thieves targeted the Distribution Centre on Herald Business Park in Coventry in December.

The charity has three hospices in Coventry, Rugby and Warwick, and has the only inpatient units in Coventry and Warwickshire.

Every year the charity supports more than 1,400 people and their families, in its three hospices.

It provides patient and family support services and community care through ‘Myton at Home’.
