Huge shop and student flat development to be created in Kenilworth

Plans to create over 100 student flats in Kenilworth town centre have been given the green light.

Cobalt Estates, in association with developers Discovery Properties, was granted planning permission to carry out a £10million re-development at Talisman shopping centre to develop five shop units at ground floor level, with 105 student flats above. The units will be developed on the site currently used as a temporary car park.

Hugo Hawkings, chief executive of Discovery Properties, said he was delighted to secure planning permission for the re-development, but added work might not begin straight away, due to delays during the planning process.

He said: “We had hoped to gain planning consent a bit earlier in the year with a view to completing the development in time for the academic year starting in September 2018. Delays during the planning process mean we are now unlikely to be able to meet this date.

“We will obviously review the situation in the new year with a view to programming a development to be completed in anticipation of the academic year starting in September 2019.”
