STEPHEN Sondheim’s multi-award winning musical Company opens at the Leamington Spa’s Loft Theatre next week.

At Bobby’s 35th birthday party, he struggles to think of a wish to make as he blows out his birthday candles.

All his friends around him are wondering why he isn’t married, why he can’t find the right partner and why he hasn’t settled down to have a family. As Bobby searches for answers, he discovers why being single, being married and ‘being alive’ in New York could drive a person crazy.

Director, James Suckling said: “Company takes a contemporary look at marriage and relationships; the pros and cons of being single or together; the need for give and take and the notion of compromise.

“Through Robert we see into the lives of five married couples finding their own ways of negotiating love and marriage. Company is filled with some of Sondheim’s most iconic character songs, bitter sweet and full of sardonic humour.”

Company opened on Broadway in 1970 to critical acclaim, winning six Tony awards. Over the last 51 years there have been hundreds of productions of staged across the world.

Company runs at The Loft from December 1 to 11.
