CUTTING out comfort food has helped one Cubbington resident lose six stone – and now she has started her own slimming group in a bid to help others.
When Janey Smith’s marriage broke up she turned to food, and before she knew it she was tipping the scales at nearly 19 stone.
The 44 year-old nail technician decided enough was enough and joined her local slimming club. By changing to a healthy diet and opting to walk instead of using the car she lost six stone in 18 months.
She told the Observer: “I feel like a new woman since losing weight. I look so different that people who I haven’t seen for a while often can’t believe I’m the same person.
“It’s the change on the inside that’s been the biggest – I’m happier, healthier and my life has changed for the better in so many ways. It’s because of this that I now want to help other people change their lives for the better too.”
Janey now hopes her experience will inspire others to lose weight and is launching her own slimming world group to help people in their weight loss journey.
She said: “I never dreamed I would end up helping other people to lose weight but now I just can’t wait to get started. It’s a privilege for me to be able to pass on the experience, insight and understanding which helped me so I can give my members the support they need.
“It’s not just about changing what you eat, it’s about getting the support to choose a healthier lifestyle and finding ways to become more active even if you’re not very mobile or don’t like exercise. My friends used to joke about me taking up running as I’ve never enjoyed it, but now I walk everywhere.”
