Kenilworth bakery announces imminent closure

A BAKERY in Kenilworth has announced its imminent closure.

Warren’s Bakery, in Talisman Close, is closing on Tuesday (October 8) due to the struggle against growing competition.

The company – which is over 150-years-old – has some 80 stores across the UK and the Kenilworth store is one of four based in the Midlands.

A post on the branch’s Facebook page said: “It is with much sadness and regret that I have to inform everybody of Warren’s Bakery Kenilworths imminent closure.

“The shop will cease trading on Tuesday October 8. This has been an extremely hard decision for the company to make and will affect many lives, but in the current economical climate the shop was struggling to compete with its bigger rivals.

“Thank you all for your ongoing support over the last 18 months. It has been a pleasure to be part of the Kenilworth community.”

The announcement was met with a multitude of comments from saddened customers and residents concerned over the loss of another store.

One wrote: “I’m really sorry to hear of another company closing in Kenilworth, what is happening with the town centre, it’s really looking so uncared for, the precinct area is absolutely dismal as a shopping experience, if it’s not attractive people from outside the town won’t come to shop here and the gradual decline will continue.”

Another added: “Another eatery is soon to open nearby on the corner of Barrow Road; maybe the town has simply reached saturation point for cafes, bakers, and the like so they can’t all survive?”
