Kenilworth campaigners to lobby council for full-sized lido

Leamington Editorial 15th Apr, 2019   0

CAMPAIGNERS fighting for a full sized lido are planning a protest outside Leamington Town Hall on Wednesday (April 17).

The Restore Kenilworth Lido (RKL) campaign group is planning to lobby councillors from 5pm ahead of a Warwick District Council meeting.

RKL wants to see the existing outdoor fun shaped pool in Abbey Fields replaced with a heated lido which could be used all year round.

But WDC approved design work on proposals in January to build a new indoor pool as part of a major overhaul of both the swimming pool and Castle Farm Recreation Centre in the town – at a cost of up to £24million.

The council says an indoor pool would meet the ‘substantial demand’ locally for more swimming lessons and during the summer could be ‘opened up’ onto an adjoining new terrace.
