Kenilworth councillor will not stand for re-election

A KENILWORTH county councillor has announced he will not be standing for re-election in May.

Liberal Democrat John Whitehouse has represented Kenilworth Abbey on Warwickshire County Council since 2005.

Changes to county council boundaries mean the Kenilworth Abbey division will no longer exist and will instead be merged with neighbouring Park Hill and St John’s as well as a new Lapworth and West Kenilworth division.

Coun Whitehouse said: “It was always my intention to stand down in 2017, but I’m only sorry this has had to coincide with the break-up of a geographically coherent county division with a proud tradition of representation by Liberal Democrat councillors.

“In my 12 years on the county council I believe I’ve achieved a lot, not just for my division but also Kenilworth as a whole, and the wider county as well.”
