DERRICK Ward had thousands of reasons to celebrate living in Kenilworth this week.

The 72 year-old was smiling after winning £25,000 when his postcode, CV8 1HX, came up trumps in the People’s Postcode Lottery at the weekend.

The retired engineer has been a playing the People’s Postcode Lottery for nearly two years and has a few ideas of what he and wife Pauline will spend the money on.

“We have one or two things in the pipeline.” he said. “We went to Las Vegas a couple of years ago but only for three days. I would really like to go back and spend a lot longer there.”

Derrick is also looking forward to celebrating his win with family.

“I have three children and three grandchildren so there are plenty of people to spoil.” he said. “I’ll have a proper think about what I want to spend the rest on.”

As a charity lottery, players have raised over £61 million for charities and good causes across Great Britain and internationally. One charity is WaterAid who has been awarded over £50,000 by players to support its emergency response work following severe flooding in Malawi.

People’s Postcode Lottery Street Prize presenter Judie McCourt said, “I enjoyed meeting Derrick and his lovely wife, Pauline. I hope they get to Las Vegas soon with their winnings.”
