Kenilworth schoolgirl sleeps in tent to support refugees

THE REFUGEE crisis engulfing Europe has prompted a Kenilworth schoolgirl to highlight their plight – by living like a refugee.

Charlotte Dubber plans to spend time away from her toys and the television – what most children take for granted – and move into a tent in the back garden of the family home for a day where she will receive food parcels from her parents.

The eight year-old has even written to her MP Jeremy Wright calling for Britain to take more child refugees and to speak to Prime Minister Theresa May about the issue.

It comes as the crisis hits the headlines again with the clearing by French authorities of the notorious so-called Calais Jungle camp, which was home to thousands of refugees from the likes of Syria, Afghanistan and Africa, who have all desperately been trying to reach Britain to seek asylum.

The Park Hill Primary school pupil is determined to try and make a difference and do what she can to improve to lives of others who are less fortunate by raising money for the child refugee crisis appeal run by Save the Children.

Charlotte’s dad John told the Observer: “She realises how lucky she is to live in a house, have family and friends and be able to go to school”.

“Charlotte has been very interested in child refugees over the last few weeks and has done lots of research after being horrified by all the pictures she has seen on the television.

Almost 200 children have been brought to UK from the Calais camp already with more expected.
