Kenilworth sees its last horse fair after landowners pull plug on event

THE LAST Kenilworth Horse Fair has been held in the town.

Horse fairs have been held three times a year on land off Thickthorn island since 2001.

Warwick District Council and police put traffic management plans and extra officers in place, but say it still causes disruption.

But now, after meetings with the landowners, it has been agreed no more fairs will be held on the site.

It comes following a spate of crime and anti-social behaviour at the July 2017 event.

The move to stop the fairs has been welcomed by district council leader Andrew Mobbs.

He said: “After many years of problems relating to the horse fair, I am pleased for the people of Kenilworth that our recent efforts supported by the police have led to the agreement that this event will no longer take place.

“Now that the agreement has been made, all parties will continue to work together to maintain good relationships within our community.“
