A BIRD’S eye view shows how work on Kenilworth railway station is progressing.
The site of the new £12million station – previously a builder’s merchants – now has signs of recognisable building work, including platform foundation (1); station building foundation (2); and the launch pit for the Severn Trent Water sewer diversion (3).
The photo shows a lorry delivering the beams for the platforms (4); while sheet piling in the picture shows the reception point for tunnelling under the bridge (5); and in the top corner is the tanyard stream diversion (6).
Monica Fogarty, joint managing director of Warwickshire County Council, said: “We are extremely excited at the prospect of Kenilworth having a station again.
“As the project enters a new phase, much of the work is now visible above the ground.
“There will be milestones coming thick and fast as we move towards the completion of the station and I hope that Kenilworth’s residents are anticipating the new station as keenly as all the partners involved.”
The Department for Transport’s New Station Fund is contributing £5million to the total cost of the
Kenilworth Station project, with the remainder of the funding being provided by local transport bodies and Warwickshire County Council.
The new station – replacing the town’s former station which closed in 1965 – will also include a ticket office, 90-space car park and cycle parking.
The station was originally set to open in August, but delays mainly due to signalling issues, have seen it put back to December.
