Lantern parade lights up south Warwickshire village

LANTERNS lit up Bishop Itchington for a celebratory parade.

The Bishop’s Itchington Lantern Parade was the final event of a year that saw residents celebrating St Michaels Church’s 150th anniversary.

A range of community groups got involved in crafting their very own lanterns, including local schools and the Women’s Institute.

People gathered with their lanterns at signposted starting points throughout the village, where the residents then walked to the church and met with the Cubbington Silver Band.

Together they walked the village’s streets and arrived at the local pub to witness a tree light-up together.

David Wilson Homes donated £400 to help with the cost of materials to make the lanterns.

Barbara Pink, organiser of the parade, said: “We had an amazing event – it worked exactly to plan and we had about 400 people take part in the parade. We are already being asked to organise the event again next year.”
