Leamington Farmers Market on the move

LEAMINGTON Farmers Market is getting a facelift in a bid to grow customers.

The market is to get a new home and a seasonal theme following discussions between Warwick District Council and market organiser CJ’s Events Warwickshire.

The new look Leamington Seasonal Producers Market will see four seasonally themed events, featuring around 30 local food and drink producers, held in Warwick Street, which will be closed to traffic.

The market had taken place on the last Saturday of the month in the Pump Room Gardens, but falling customer numbers and competing markets on the same day in the region, were hitting business hard.

The first new look market will be on Sunday April 19, from 10am to 4pm. The spring themed market will be followed by summer (June 7), harvest (September 20) and winter (January 24, 2021).

Jamie Walker of CJ’s Events Warwickshire, said: “Leamington farmers’ market has been a market which we have struggled with over the past 24 months.

“With the slightly out of town position, restrictions on who we can have attending and other larger farmers’ markets within the region, it has caused stall numbers to drop dramatically, and was becoming unviable to run.”

District council business spokesman Coun Alan Rhead added he was a confident the new format would be a winning one.

* A TASTE of France will be returning to Southam next month.

The French Street Market will be setting up stalls in the town on Sunday April 5 between 10am and 4pm.

The traders, mostly from Normandy, will be offering French favourites including freshly baked bread, croissants, and patisserie, together with cheeses, cooked meats, and olives.

And there will also be hand-made crafts, toys, games, baskets, leather bags, and more.
