A HOTEL in Leamington is set to undergo a £3million expansion.
The Premier Inn on The Parade has snapped up the former Barclays Bank next door and will build an extra 19 bedrooms and a new bar and restaurant there.
The external appearance of the disused Grade II building will remain mostly unaltered but some improvements will be made to areas where there were formerly cash machines.
The project will begin in late June and is expected to take 20 weeks.
Project leader Graham Hedley said the extension was ‘urgently needed’ for the popular hotel.
He added: “We have been working closely with Warwick District Council to ensure the conversion respects the heritage of the listed building.
“Our alterations provide a positive heritage benefit and will bring a disused historic building back into use.”
Warwick District Council chief executive Chris Elliott said the need proved the popularity of Leamington as a hotel destination and restaurant centre and would provide a boost to the local economy.
