A LEAMINGTON man who raped his sister by forcing her to perform oral sex on him when he was a teenager has been jailed and ordered to register as a sex offender for life.
The 21-year-old was sentenced five years and four months after pleading guilty at Warwick Crown Court to raping the girl when she was about 11.
He had also admitted two charges of causing her to watch a sexual act, two of engaging in sexual activity in her presence and one of causing her to engage in sexual activity.
Prosecutor Peter Cook said the offences took place when the girl was just ten or 11, with the rape taking place when the defendant, who cannot be named to protect her identity was 18.
The offences stopped after the girl told her grandmother some of what had happened to her – and she spoke to their father who challenged him about it.
But it was only last year that the police were contacted after the girl had confided in a family friend who then told her mother what she had said.
The girl told officers the abuse had gone on for a couple of years after she started to go into her brother’s bedroom while he was playing computer games.
He then began showing her adult pornography on his computer, which she said she did not like.
When he was arrested in March last year he admitted the incident of oral sex, other sexual activity, and also accepted showing her pornography.
Nick Devine, defending, said: “He is an emotionally immature young man. For someone of his age, and of his vulnerability, having committed an offence of this nature, custody is going to be difficult for him.”
Jailing the defendant, Judge Andrew Lockhart QC told him: “You are a man of good character, but you pleaded guilty to a number of very serious offences committed when she was very young.
“At the time this began, you were 17 and she was ten. You were well aware what you were doing was seriously wrong. You took advantage of her.”
