Leamington phone box-turned art gallery hosts inaugural exhibition

Leamington Editorial 23rd Aug, 2021   0

A REPURPOSED Leamington phone box – known as The Art Box – is hosting its inaugural exhibition.

The traditional red phone box in Clarendon Avenue was given a new artistic lease of life after being refurbished and restored by the Friends of Christchurch Gardens.

And the first artwork to be housed in the call box is a lockdown photography project created by young artists from Kingsley School.

The display will continue until early September, when a new show of landscapes will be unveiled.

Group secretary Paul Dickins said: “We are delighted Leamington Town Council approved the Friends’ proposal for a mini art gallery, investing in the refurbishment and restoration of the kiosk. We are looking forward to exhibitions by pupils from local schools and anticipate some wonderful creativity!”

The Friends Group is made up of volunteers passionate about maintaining and improving the gardens. You can follow and support their work through their Facebook Page FriendsofChristchurchGardens.
